Produce Guide-Fruits, Vegetables, Flashcards and Nutrition App Reviews

Nice App overall but...

:) But the addition of "Benefits" or "Medicinal uses" as well as "Too much consumption consequences" for each fruit or vegetable would make this application a total useful treat & encourage people to use it even more to learn and to choose the right vegetables/fruits. Also I couldnt find "Zucchini" I am not sure if it is included in some category somewhere... :S ... a "search engine" added to the app would be helpful for that! Please include such information in future updates. Overall the application is cool, I recommend it for anyone interested in learning a little about the various fruits and vegetables or for those who get stuck on recipe books trying to find out what certain ingredient name actually is. Also cool to know whats in season & whats not. Developpers include what I mentioned into your app and it will be unbeatable. Good luck.

one handy guide

Up till now there are only 2 of these guides in App Store and this one seems to have beat the competition hands down already, i agree with the earlier post about a search function which could be a good idea as the database grows over the years. btw i found out from the developer that zucchini is under the "squash" category.

This app. is for people afraid of produce..

While this app. is good for people afraid of the produce section, it could use a few more features: - How to clean, prepare (cook etc.) a particular item. For example: artichokes are quite hard to prepare - Little details like Large strawberries in general being tasteless would be nice - Most produce says "Refrigerator: yes". How about suggestions on how long it will last inside and out of the fridge? Lots of fruit can be stored for a week outside the fridge. - For "seasons", is this for North America, Europe, africa? A little more depth of info. would be nice. - Would be nice to have some less common vegetables normally seen in farmers markets but not in the major chains - Where did you hide the peppers? Search would be nice Overall I learned $2 worth of information (dont store onions with potatoes) so I am happy, but would like to see more.

more information prep info?

great app but like the other reviewer conan said could use more.

Good start, needs more items

I would add bullet points on how to eat (ie boil/fry or eat raw) also missing many Indian and Chinese vegetables that an Anglo like me is curious about which is what I was really looking for

WOW!!

This app is such a great deal when you consider all the wonderful features! I love being able to keep track of when Ive purchased my produce, learning how long it will keep, and knowing where to store my produce. I will try to buy produce that is in season now that I know when all the seasons are in my iphone. I may even run through the flashcards with my daughter so that she can learn her fruits and vegetables.

Love this app!

Very useful app and well laid out. Graphics are great. Easy to read and use. I like the nutritional information. Ive learned a lot from it. By far, the best app purchase Ive made. I originally made a mistake with the ratings I meant to list this app as 5 stars.

Worth it, but not quite there yet.

I work in the produce business and was very surprised to see such an app existed. Most, if not all, of the major common produce you would find in a typical produce department is listed with good yet sometimes breif information. Its not meant to be wikipedia so I dont dock it points for that. However, if you walk into a produce department of a much larger retail store you will find many uncommon and sometimes unusual items that really should be listed in this app (because those are the items most people want to know about and that is should be the main selling point for this app). This app took care of the common stuff, now lets see it tackle the uncommon stuff. There also should be a way for the user to separate all the items into two catagories: fruits or vegetables. It would make it much easier and faster to locate an item if the user doesnt know if an item is a fruit or a veggie. Lastly, I like that the user can select a season and get the fruits and veggies that are available during that season, but it should go into more detail and allow the user to select a particular month and have it provide all that is in season for that month, because there are many produce items that are only available for a few months. To list these items under an entire season would be missleading. Do these things and this app gets an easy 5.

Great start, but needs....

I work in the produce dept in a large grocery store, and it seems it is missing some of the prime produce that I get asked most about. Ex: entire bean family, more salad greens, more ethnic produce, more tropical produce (coconut, coco root, etc) hybrid fruits/veggies (like the grapple, unique fruit, broccoliflower, etc...) If you are going to list different types of produce then list them all, like white onions are missing from the onion list & both green and red leaf are missing from the lettuce list. Im looking forward to updates as you add more to make the program more complete. I like the flashcards. All in all great start and worth the money. Would be five stars when more complete.

like it, but would love it if...

overall, the interface is really clean and the information is clear and accurate. aside from missing several key entries (which we hope will be released soon!) it would be amazing to see a note about the native geographical origins of each variety and where each is now grown. that information is invaluable for those of us attempting to consume more local produce.

Good, but would be GREAT if...

...you added the rest of the significant nutritional info, like the major vitamins and minerals. Its a challenge for a vegetarian-- or anyone, really-- to get complete nutrition and knowing the vitamin/mineral content of produce would be a huge help. Looking forward to your updates.

A bit lacking

Good idea. Poor execution. Needs many more entries. Log function seems non existant. NEEDS WORK.

Great!

This app is wonderful. It comes in very handy and I love the photos that accompany each item. For me, the log is the best feature an serves as a helpful reminder as to whats hidden in what used to be my fridges Rot Drawer. I have only one feature request: please pre-sort the produce in the log as follows: •Fruit •Vegetable •Herb Thanks! Keep up the great work

great

maybe some more items add facts about the produce and cooking ideas like a best served cold or for apples best for pies.....

Good

The app is good with decent information. Would like to see more info under nutritional section such as vitamin content. Hope there will be an upgrade with this info.

Good app!

Very useful. I like the expiration info.

Love it - Makes Produce Fun! :)

Im so bored with the produce in my store because its the same old same old. But I didnt know what to do with the other stuff. This app has alot of listings and some great information. The guessing game (flashcards)is fun too. Pics are large and clear and the facts are clear and to the point - Great! I would like to see how things should be cooked, cut or prepared. A full recipe isnt necessary but for an example - starfruit - do you eat the skin? I would assume you cut in slices but can it be cut in strips? Can it be cooked? etc etc

Need to know more

I really like this app, BUT, I would love it if it had the nutritional values include the actual vitamins, minerals, etc associated with each.

Ideas

I really find this app useful, but I do have one suggestion. I would like to see a section that tells you how to eat the item...there are many produce items I have never heard of.

Worth the cost...and then some

This app is great to have. Produce is essential for good health, but it also can be expensive. Buying fruits and veggies that are under ripe (and wont further ripen at home) or past their prime (and no one will eat) is as bad as throwing money in the trash. Its nice to know whats in season now and the timeline for consumption so it doesnt go to waste. The timer feature for tracking freshness is very helpful as well. It would be nice in the future to see: basic nutritional info for each entry; basic info on how to prepare (i.e. peel first, peel edible, nasty raw but fantastic cooked, etc.); more varities added for stuff like apples, oranges and lettuce as stores can carry dozens of varieties; a suggestion entry such as, "If you like A, then try B, C or D."; a way to notate which items were liked or disliked. Thanks for the great app! I am looking forward to the updates.
